Stephen Spice

Teacher of Mathematics

Stephen was born and raised in Kent in the UK and initially studied banking and accountancy before choosing the more creative and exciting subject of mathematics. Having shown exceptional ability in the subject, he graduated from the University of Kent at Canterbury with a first-class degree and academic awards for excellence in mathematical application that resulted in a multi-year research grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to study arithmetic p-adic chaos theory. This resulted in the creation of several new mathematical tools in the field of systems dynamics.

At the beginning of the new millennium, he decided to explore the world of international teaching and moved to Athens, Greece. He started teaching computer science and physics and was soon promoted head of the school’s ICT department. Whilst teaching mathematics in Greece, he completed a master’s degree in education from the University of Leeds and was awarded a multi-year research grant from the Greek government to study the application of chaos theory to opinion dynamics in the department of methodology in social psychology at Panteion University, Athens. This research resulted in several presentations to the Hellenic Society for Systemic Studies.

With more than two decades of international teaching experience, Stephen has also held various positions including head of department and extended essay coordinator. When he is not passionately engaging his students in the delights and mysteries of mathematics, he enjoys walking, reading, solving mathematical problems by writing computer programs and writing books.
