Originally from the USA, John has lived and taught in Shanghai for the past twelve years, of which ten years were spent teaching history at Guanghua Cambridge International School. There he taught both IGCSE history and AP US history, and he was heavily involved in extracurricular activities including helping to mentor the school’s first film club. For aperiod, he was also Head of Department where he helped to design an American-based history curriculum. During that time he also worked to receive his teaching license from the United States.
John graduated from Columbia University in 2004 with a degree in History. He then went back to school in 2007, studyingfor his M.A. in U.S. Intellectual and Cultural History from Ohio University.
Outside of the classroom, John enjoys learning more about the city he calls home, regularly going on historic tours andreading about life in the city over the past 150 years. Additionally, he regularly attends live music and theatre performances. He also enjoys cinema, gaming, and yoga.
