James has been teaching Humanities and English Literature internationally for the past two decades and has heldmanagement positions at schools in and around Shanghai. He holds four British universityqualifications, including a Masters in Educational Leadership. He's spoken atconferences in the UK and throughout Asia, particularly on soft skills and theintersection of schooling, education and neuroscience. Because of this interestin how we learn he is studying for his second masters, this time inneuroscience from King's College London. He was instrumental instarting the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at his last two schools and has ledmultiple school trips to Britain and throughout China. He also enjoys studyingcomparative history and looking at the effect geography can have on the courseof events; he is a bibliophile with a large personal library covering manyareas but particularly Chinese and European history and philosophy. His two children occasionally tire of him saying 'I have a book on that...' Jamesfounded the Shanghai Chess Club a very long time ago now and, though he nolonger plays competitively, he is still active in Shanghai's chess community. James has now completed 3 Spartan obstacle course races and is also a keencyclist and swimmer.
