Alan began his teaching career in South Africa, teaching secondary Afrikaans and English Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 at private and state schools in Cape Town. After seven years, he moved to the UK, where he was a primary school teacher for six years. He obtained his Qualified Teacher Status at secondary schools in London before leaving the classroom to become a teacher trainer and writer of teaching resources. Alan ran INSET workshops for teachers at schools in England, Wales, Spain, South Africa, China and Malaysia. Additionally, he created various study skills courses and memory-improvement programmes which he delivered to students all over the UK. Alan has spent the last eight years teaching EAL, English First Language and an English As a Second Language at two international schools in Shanghai. Alan studied English, History, Afrikaans-Nederlands and Speech and Drama at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa, before earning a Postgraduate Teaching Diploma at the University of Cape Town. Alan has a passion for writing and is an accomplished and acclaimed novelist, playwright and poet. His work has been lauded in South Africa, Europe and the United States. He is also passionate about animals and lives with 11 cats and two rabbits.
