Michael Orchard

Head of Pre-Prep (Years 1-2) | Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

 

Michael has been teaching for more than ten years and came to Wellington College in 2018 as a Year 2 teacher. In 2020 he became Head of Year 1 and the Wellbeing Coordinator for Pre and Lower Prep. Michael holds a certificate in Positive Education from Wilfred Laurier University (Canada) and is passionate about pupils learning to flourish in all areas of life. Before moving to Wellington, he taught both Years 1&2 at Yew Chung International School. Michael gained his graduate teaching qualification in his home country of New Zealand. He also holds Qualified Teacher Status in England. He completed a BSc(Hons) in Environmental Health at Middlesex University, and later a post-graduate diploma in leadership at Mattersey Hall, Doncaster. Before teaching Michael pursued a career in public health working in central government on legislative and policy reform. He also served 3 years as the Executive Director of the Institute of Environmental Health before taking a career break to teach public health at a university in China. Michael is accompanied by his wife, and two children who both study at Wellington.
