Amy Bennett

Head of History | House Coordinator

Originally from Manchester, Amy spent most of her life in Warrington, UK, before heading to the Northeast for university. She graduated in 2015 with a BA degree in Combined Honours, majoring in history, before settling in South London. There she spent seven years working for a successful multi-academy trust, first as a trainee in the Teach First Leadership Development Programme (2016 cohort) and then as part of the founding team of a brand-new academy in 2018. At this academy she built up the humanities department, leading the history curriculum and whole-school citizenship curriculum, collaborating on the personal development curriculum, establishing a comprehensive and inclusive student leadership structure, and leading on whole-school assessment for learning initiatives, including embedding oracy into assessment design.

Whilst teaching, she undertook an MA in Humanities Education at UCL Institute of Education. Her research interests include curriculum design, cognitive science and inclusive teaching. Her areas of historical interest include Europe in the Early Modern period, the Age of Revolutions and the birth of nations such as the United States and Germany. She also has a soft spot for art history and symbolism in portraiture.

Outside of teaching, Amy is an avid fiction reader, musical theatre-goer and Formula 1 fan.
