Thomas Edwards

Head of Biology & Head of Science

Thomas has taught biology A level and science for eight years in Beijing, four of which he took the additional responsibility of  housemaster for both Prep and Senior School pupils. Before that, Thomas taught IB Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies at a British International School in Shanghai. He studied biology at the University of Bristol and completed a post-graduate diploma in psychology before completing his PGCE and starting his teaching career in Suffolk in the UK.

Whilst studying he discovered SCUBA diving, and the cold trips to windy UK beaches sparked a continuing passion for the underwater world. Thomas later became a SCUBA diving and first aid instructor and enjoys all things relating to the great outdoors, leading several school SCUBA diving trips for pupils to the Philippines and Malaysia as well as countless International Award expeditions. Thomas believes that trips and experiential learning are critical for pupils to develop into well-rounded, resilient and enthusiastic team players.

Thomas enjoys trail running, cycling and keeping fit. He has completed the Beijing marathon twice as well as several ultra-marathons in the hills around Beijing. Thomas also loves rugby, singing and learning Chinese, even if his infant daughter has already superseded his Mandarin proficiency.
