Adam Shaw

Director of Pupil Services | Teacher of Design & Technology

Adam began his journey with Wellington College Education (China) as a founding member of staff at our sister school in Tianjin, in 2011. In August 2013 he became part of the Wellington College International Shanghai start-up team, before becoming a founding member of the academic team, the following year. Adam has held roles including Head of Art, Design & Technology, Housemaster and Head of Boarding, and in 2015 he was appointed Deputy Head Pastoral of the Senior School. In 2020, he was appointed to the whole school role of Director of Pupil Services, overseeing Learning Support (SEND), Pupil Support and Counselling teams, as well as the College's academic Wellbeing curriculum. He also leads the College's Staff Wellbeing Committee, offering avenues of support and guidance to colleagues, as well as a board staff activity programme.

Adam studied Industrial Design at the University of Central Lancashire before heading back to his spiritual home to study for his PGCE at The University of Manchester. His first teaching post was at Aquinas Sixth Form College in Stockport, where he became curriculum lead in Design & Technology, before spending three years in the Middle East as Head of Design & Technology at Repton School in Dubai.

Over the past 7 years, Adam has taken advantage of many of Shanghai's social and sporting offerings, he is the Chairman of the Shanghai Scottish Football Club, regularly cycles around the city and beyond, and can occasionally be seen swinging a cricket bat and a golf club, too.
