Helena Hicks studied at Hunan Normal University, gaining both a BA and an MA in English language and literature. Before moving to the UK with her English husband, she was a well-known English lecturer to degree students of English at Jimei University of Xiamen in Fujian Province. She is fully qualified as a teacher in both China and the UK. While in the UK, Helena held teaching posts at some of the country's most prestigious schools. She was a Chinese teacher at the Cheltenham Ladies College, one of the leading girls schools in the country. Helena also served as Head of Curriculum and founder at the Gloucestershire Mandarin School and taught Chinese at Pate Grammar School, one of the highest rated grammar schools in the UK. Helena has been part of the Wellington team since 2014. Since then, she has been dedicated to making Chinese language and culture key aspects of every pupil life. Her own carefully crafted curriculum responds to the linguistic needs of every learner of all ages from the complete beginner to the native-level, fluent speaker. Her program of cultural enrichment, through annual celebration performances and workshops, reaches out to every pupil, parent and teacher. When not teaching, Helena enjoys swimming, walking, table tennis and travel.
