Kay Yongzhen Yang was born in northern China where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, she went back to her high school, and began her career as a high school chemistry teacher and received great honours as a provincial expert teacher there.
After six years, she received her master’s degree in education and moved to Guangzhou, where she began her international education journey at a well-known private K12 school teaching IB Chemistry and serving as the school’s Director of Academics and IBDP Coordinator. In 2008, Kay was invited to Shanghai to initiate the IBDP programme at a K12 international school and served as its Director of Academics of Whole School, Deputy Head and Head of School. Later, she started studying for her second master’s degree in education from University College London. In 2018, she became Vice Principal of Whole School at another K12 international school, focusing on teaching and learning, curriculum development and teachers’ professional development.
Kay was also appointed by International Baccalaureate Organisation as an IB Programme Leader and was a guest lecturer and supervisor at East China Normal University. She has a deep understanding and rich practical experience in the integration of Chinese and international curriculums, philosophy and approaches, as well as the theory of learning and teaching practices.
