Senior boys win the SISAC plate basketball with the girls finishing third

23 Jan 2017
Last weekend the Senior Boys and Girls Basketball teams competed in the SISAC finals at Nord Anglia International School. This was the finale of a ten-week season of midweek fixtures against the leading International Schools in Shanghai. The teams fared well throughout the season, demonstrating great commitment and teamwork. The boys enjoyed success by winning three of their seven matches and the girls have steadily improved with each game as they strive for that elusive first win. The finals were long and tiring but the hard work paid off as the girls won two of their three matches, beating YCIS PD and SMIC in very close games. Jolin was particularly impressive as was Heather, who scored a masterful three-point shot to win the match against SMIC, securing the team third place overall. The boys won all their matches, culminating in a plate competition victory which was a great achievement and a first for Wellington College International Shanghai. The most notable highlights were the semi-final against SMIC where the boys won 25-19 and coming back from behind to secure a 23-14 victory over BISS Puxi in the final. The team performed very well collectively with outstanding efforts from Efe, Yousef and Chad. Congratulations to all the boys and girls involved after a substantial season. Hopefully, senior basketball at Wellington College International Shanghai will continue to improve as we build on these admirable successes throughout the course of the coming year.
