Last Saturday Wellington hosted an U.11 & U.9 Rugby tournament, where the focus was on developing the knowledge and understanding of the game. It was great to see so many young boys and some girls playing with a huge smile on their face, as they were clearly enjoy the physicality of the game. The matches were played with a good spirit and positive sportsmanship was evident throughout. For both age groups Wellington played BISS Puxi, The French School and Nord Anglia International School. The U.11 team played some very expansive rugby with Captain George Flint pulling the strings and Shae Cahill impressing on his debut. Daniel Wareham and Thierry Ngai led the defence well and helped give the team their direction. For the U.9’s team it was for most of them, their first competitive rugby experience. They all did so well and as a coach, I know the parents on the sidelines will agree, we were all very proud of them. They played some great rugby and scored some excellent tries. Ultimately they worked together and certainly in defence they remained solid. Captain this week was Alex Lu and he led the team well, with what was the tackle of the day, Taylor Marsters was always a threat with ball in hand and Tomas Christensen was tenacious throughout. Our next tournament is at Dulwich College on Saturday 5th March. Many thanks to all the support from our parents last weekend and I hope to see you again this weekend.
