Wellington fields four successful teams in Shanghai Primary Football Tournament

06 Nov 2017
Last weekend saw Wellington host its second Shanghai Primary Football Tournament of the year, with over forty teams competing in the U9 and U11 age categories for both boys and girls. This was the fourth in a series of six weekend tournaments for our lower Prep pupils, who have all improved significantly over the course of this term. Our U11 boys fielded two teams in the A category, who finished second and fourth, with some great performances in particular from Alex and Miguel. The U11B team beat Dulwich Puxi to finish in 3rd place overall. The U11 girls won their group games while conceding only a single goal, and they were very unlucky to lose 2-1 against YCIS which left them in 2nd place. After finishing 4th and 2nd in their previous two tournaments, the U9 girls team secured their first tournament win after a tightly fought 1-0 victory against YCIS. Pearl, Beatrix and Fiona all played particularly well on the day. The U9 boys A team lost narrowly to a strong Dulwich Suzhou team, finishing 2nd, while the B team also won their first tournament with a 1-0 victory in the final, thanks to some impressive teamwork and outstanding contributions from Daniel and Tiago. Every Wellingtonian should be extremely pleased with their excellent performances which resulted in a great day of football. Congratulations to the seventy players we had out on the day!
