Senior SISAC football: Girls finish 4th overall in Shanghai

02 May 2017
The SISAC senior football final was the culmination of the football season, with Wellington teams appearing at three different venues. The division one girls headed to SMIC, the division one boys went NAIS and the division two girls faced off against BISS Puxi. The Div 1 boys began their first game well, managing to secure a 2-0 lead at half time, but they couldn’t hold on to their lead and lost 3-2 against Nanjing. The next two matches saw further wins against SSIS Suzhou and Hangzhou and moved the boys up to battle it out for fifth place overall. Unfortunately, they couldn’t maintain the run of victories and lost to Nanjing in another tight match which ended in a 2-1 defeat. A special mention must go to Zach in goal and Gerrard as top scorer. The Div 1 girls had a tough start against YCIS Puxi but held on until the final whistle, which saw them secure a 3-2 victory and allowed them to progress to the semifinals of the cup competition. Unfortunately, they faced a strong SCIS HQ team and were defeated 4-0 and the 3rd/4th place playoff resulted in another 2-0 defeat, this time to the German school. It was a long day but the girls were a credit to the College, finishing fourth out of all the schools in Shanghai is a great achievement. Special mentions go to Heather and Kate who played consistently well in all of the games. The Div 2 girls travelled to BISS Puxi and despite losing both their games to SSIS SH and SSIS Suzhou, spirits were high and this team enabled over 24 girls to play competitive football at the Senior School level. Overall, it was a busy weekend and a great end to what has been a sensational season of football for our Senior School teams.
