5th edition of the Retreat is now available!

12 Dec 2016
'The Retreat' is the College’s bi-annual writing magazine and it is here offered, for the first time, in digital format. A hard copy of the magazine will be made available to Year 6 pupils and above. Following previous threads on travel, sport and comedy, this fifth edition is based on the idea of 'identity'. The editorial team has worked hard to offer over 20 articles in this new issue. Most of the pieces have been written by our Senior School pupils, with contributions from Wellington staff and friends of Wellington (a visiting lecturer and a Festival of Education participant). The standard of the writing in 'The Retreat' is uniformly high and it has been favourably compared to similar university publications. It is a 'writing' rather than a literary periodical, because writing need not necessarily be 'literary' to be good. There are stories, poems, essays, academic studies, reviews, musings, photo-essays, autobiographical monographs, and even a piece 'written' with the aid of technology. The next edition (publication date: June 2017) will be based around the idea of China. As we want the magazine to be as broadly representative of the Wellington community as possible, the editorial team very much hopes that some parents might make inaugural contributions. In time, we hope that the majority of the writing will come from the pupils, as one of the aims of ‘The Retreat’ is to embed the principles of good writing in the school and to encourage, both through the CCA and elsewhere, ambitious written expression. Please, therefore, do respond to an invitation we will be issuing early next term, inviting parents to have a say in ‘The Retreat’ #6 - China'. In the meantime, please enjoy the current edition and if you want a hard copy of previous publications, feel free to contact us.
