CCA registration

11 December 2020

We fervently believe that our pupils should be given every chance to discover subjects and activities that genuinely appeal to them and then allowed to pursue those passions in a supportive learning environment with every appropriate resource at their disposal. This is exactly what our co-curricular activities (CCA) programme aims to achieve. By allowing our pupils greater freedom to explore new activities, we believe that they will cultivate new interests and aptitudes which will aid both their personal and academic development.

The CCA programme is compulsory for years 1, 2 and 3 on Mondays and years 2 and 3 on Wednesdays (see CCA schedule below). The years 4 to 13 CCA programme is compulsory and places emphasis on academic enrichment and support alongside the physical and creative activities (see CCA schedule below). The programme is made up of three parts: prep sessions, enrichment and support (click the drop-down menu for further details), a combination designed to encourage academic progression, increase pastoral contact time and push pupils’ capabilities to a higher level.

The CCA options are selected online using Schools Buddy and pupils / parents are asked to indicate five choices for each day. We will try our best to accommodate a pupil’s first choice option; however, some activities are restricted to a maximum number of pupils, therefore some pupils will be allocated their second choice and so on. Allocations are random, not first come first served. Although late or no submissions will be given lowest priority. Parents/pupils will receive an email from SchoolBuddy when the next term activities are available for selection.

Pupils will be involved in one of four aspects:

– Prep sessions: these will be held in the class/form or houserooms and will be run by tutors, which will encourage greater pastoral contact time. This will also create a better working environment so that pupils can be productive in getting their prep done. It is expected that pupils work in silence.

– Enrichment: these sessions are meant as an exciting opportunity for pupils to take their level of understanding beyond that of the specification and to challenge themselves. Pupils will be invited to attend by the relevant heads of department.

– Support: those deemed in need of academic support will be invited to attend. The sessions will also take place during lunch periods.

− Focus sessions: To allow our sports teams and performing arts casts greater opportunities to train/rehearse together, there will be different sports/arts focuses each day. Pupils involved in focus sessions will carry out their activity during period 7 and 8.

Pupils are asked to pick a broad range of activities from the physical and creative options. Activity choices change three times per year at the start of each new term. There is no guarantee that all activities will be offered from term to term.
