Wellington College competes in Shanghai U13 FOBISIA warm-up

23 Feb 2017
Last weekend, Wellington College International Shanghai took part in a two-sport competition of boys and girls football and basketball teams at NAIS. The tournament is designed as a warm-up for schools travelling to the U13 FOBISIA event, with the day being split into boys football and girls basketball in the morning followed by boys basketball and girls football in the afternoon. The tournament’s participants consisted of British Schools based in Shanghai, such as NAIS, Dulwich Shanghai, Dulwich Suzho and BIS Puxi. Competing against these teams provided invaluable experience for our pupils, since we hope to become a member of FOBISIA in the future. Despite the fact that our opposition had been training for months in preparation for FOBISIA, our teams all played superbly and generated some impressive results. A crucial victory over Dulwich Shanghai meant that the boys finished third in football overall, with the girls managing one better, finishing second thanks to outstanding performances from Jade for the girls and Kai for the boys. The basketball fixtures represented a useful learning curve for our pupils, with the boys finishing fourth and girls fifth. The boys lost a closely-fought match against NAIS by a mere handful of points, though they managed to beat Dulwich Suzhou. The girls were unfortunate not to secure a win but contested very close games throughout the tournament. Notable performances included Matteo for the boys and Claudia for the girls. Overall, the tournament provided an excellent day of friendly yet competitive sport for all of the teams involved, who headed home tired but happy after giving a fantastic all-round effort.
