Mrs Serrano is new to Shanghai, originally from the North of England. Coming from a mixed background, she has always been fascinated in different cultures and is proud to be bilingual in English and Spanish. Previously she has worked in a range of British primary schools, gaining experience in Year 1 through to Year 6. Since 2019 she has worked in Year 2 with a range of children, including children with special educational needs and multilingual pupils. Making learning fun and full of immersive experiences are key to her teaching style. Focusing on a safe classroom culture; mental health and setting high expectations are fundamental to her educational outlook. Mrs Serrano’s passion for teaching comes from her mother who is also a teacher at Wellington College (Mrs Heatley).
As a teenager she supported her mother teaching, gaining fantastic skills. After discovering her passion, she took the first step in becoming a teacher and gained a BSc Hons degree which specialized in Childhood Studies, Child Psychology, Spanish Language and Culture. In 2018 she graduated with a PGCE in Primary education with qualified teacher status, at Sheffield Hallam University. During her career, she has collaborated with educators and governors to diversify schemes of work to support all learners, lead engaging afterschool clubs and taught exceptional lessons.
Outside of school she enjoys travelling with her family, going to the theatre and long walks. Mrs Serrano has a baby boy who is full of energy and she loves reading books to him in Spanish.
