This Wellington Scholar is hitting all the right notes

It should come as no surprise that music would be a lifelong passion for Wellington Arts Scholar, Melody. As early as age 4, she watched in fascination as her father, a skilled luthier, craft violins from hand. Playing violin alongside her piano teacher, she came to see that each individual note on the staff had its own unique personality.

As a Wellington Arts Scholar, Melody has seized every opportunity to hone her musical talents — performing in concerts and competitions, taking on leadership roles such as being Concertmaster at the ISCMS 2025 Gala Concert, and even with the support of the College, studying at the prestigious Juilliard School's China campus in Tianjin.

 

With the encouragement of our Director of Arts, Michael Larsen-Disney, she has also gained the courage to venture beyond their comfort zone, taking on roles in our Secondary School musicals, like Legally Blonde and Sister Act.

As a Wellington Scholar, Melody is on a clear path to excellence and achievement that will pay dividends long after she graduates. "Every Friday afternoon, I take early leave to fly to nearby Tianjin to The Juilliard School’s - China-based conservatoire.” she explains, “The flexibility helps to further fortify my future in this field, taking me that step closer toward pursing music at an elite university and at a professional level.”
