In case you missed it: March 2025
2025 Model United Nations Conference

Wellington's 2025 Model United Nations conference brought together over 270 pupils from 13 schools. Themed 'Habermas: The Public Sphere', it embodied MUN's purpose, engaging youth to solve global challenges. Committees linked topics to UN Sustainable Development Goals, discussing water scarcity, online hate, endangered species, refugees, fast fashion and peacekeeping. The Security Council addressed Syria and Myanmar, while the Historical Security Council tackled Northern Ireland and Bhopal. Delegates researched, represented nations, negotiated, and drafted resolutions. MUN remains integral to Wellington's global citizenship education, driven by a dedicated pupil leadership team.
Maths Week

The theme for this year’s Maths Week was the number 10 in honour of ‘10 Years of Creating a Global Community’. The week featured engaging activities that promoted educational growth and community spirit. Pupils built Sierpinski triangles, played probability-based games, and explored exponential growth. The Tower of Hanoi House Competition emphasised teamwork and logical reasoning, while maths art sessions combined creativity and analytical thinking. Pupils applied scaling principles and geometric transformations and analysed data on the College's growth. The week culminated in a mathematics-themed dress-up day with treasure hunts and tactical challenges, inspiring a lasting appreciation for maths and raising the bar for next year's activities.
Primary School Water Investigation

Primary School had a fantastic array of inquiry projects all linked to our ‘How the World Works’ unit and the celebration of World Water Day. Pupils dove into hands-on learning and had a splash of fun along the way!
Pupils have been diving into the design cycle by building structures tough enough to take on typhoon-like rain. They collected and analysed the data to figure out which designs held up best—and thinking about how these ideas could be used to protect real buildings right here in Shanghai. It’s hands-on learning with a real-world twist!
As part of their learning on measurement, pupils put their knowledge of volume and capacity to the test by creating their own delicious mocktail recipes. Using accurate measuring techniques, they served up their tasty creations to real-life customers from around the school – all while practising their presentation and speaking skills. It was a fun and refreshing way to see maths in action, blending precision with creativity and a whole lot of flavour!
The pupils also got hands-on by making their own mini water cycles in plastic bags—it was a fun way to see how water changes state as it moves through the cycle of evaporation, condensation and a bit of bag-sized rain!
Global University Fair

Our annual University and Careers Fair provided our Secondary pupils with a crucial launchpad for their post-Wellington journey. This was the first year since 2019 that we held this event fully in-person and on campus again. We welcomed over 110 universities from 17 destinations worldwide. Pupils in years 10-12 engaged in nearly 1,000 conversations with admissions officers, exploring the vast array of opportunities available to them and gaining insights to enhance their university applications. The fair also welcomed pupils from our sister schools Hiba Academy Shanghai and Hiba Academy Nantong as well as parents from across the Shanghai community.
Inspirit AI Workshop

Wellington hosted its third annual AI Project-Building Intensive, in collaboration with Inspirit AI, an education programme developed by Stanford and MIT graduates. Pupils in grades 7-13 learned the fundamentals of AI and Python while working on hands-on projects like generative art and disease diagnosis. They also discussed the ethical issues around AI and the biases we inject into large-language models.
IB Art Exhibition

Our talented visual artists in the Sixth Form presented their portfolios for our annual IB art exhibition. This year, they explored the theme 'Echoes'. Held in our Common Room this year, the exhibit celebrated the culmination of their two-year IB visual arts programme and was an opportunity to showcase their exceptional skills, creativity and technical mastery. On display was a variety of 2D and 3D works, including paintings, photographs, sculptures and immersive installations. Through their captivating pieces, our pupils explored a multitude of thought-provoking ideas and emotions, offering a glimpse into their artistic journeys and reflections on the world around them.
FOBISIA Music Festival

Wellington hosted the annual FOBISIA Music Festival, and made history with 400 pupils and 70 teachers from 24 schools across Asia — the largest festival to date! Embracing the 'Magic' theme, pupils donned Harry Potter-style cloaks for their spellbinding performances, captivating the 600 parents who travelled to Shanghai for the performance. Pupils also took part in enriching workshops in which they learned how to play traditional Chinese musical instruments and make magic wands. Pupils were also treated to a magic performance and a field trip to the iconic Yu Garden.
Primary Olympics

Our Primary pupils in years 3-6 went Faster, Higher and Stronger in our annual Primary Olympics. Children competed with house spirit and camaraderie, vying for points in friendly competitions like football, volleyball, kickball, a sack race an obstacle and more. Throughout the events, our young athletes displayed admirable sportsmanship, teamwork and house spirit.
Annual Review

March was also time for our Annual Review by our Wellington College Family of Schools. This gathering is invaluable because it provides impartial and independent verification that our school leadership's self-assessment and improvement strategies are well-aligned. They empower us to uphold robust standards and refine our development planning to meet the needs of our school community. In the months ahead, we eagerly anticipate showcasing the dynamic initiatives we are pursuing here at Wellington Shanghai to our fellow members of the global Wellington network.
